C Joseph Vijay Takes the Helm as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister


Chennai: On Saturday, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar appointed C Joseph Vijay as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, with the official oath-taking ceremony scheduled for Sunday.


The swearing-in ceremony for the Vijay-led cabinet will take place at 10 AM at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.


Vijay's appointment follows his submission of letters of support from the VCK and IUML, each holding two MLAs. The governor engaged in discussions for approximately an hour regarding the necessary backing.


As stated in a press release from Lok Bhavan, Vijay's appointment as chief minister was made in accordance with constitutional provisions, and the governor has invited him to form a new ministry.


Additionally, Arlekar has instructed Vijay to secure a vote of confidence by May 13.


During his meeting with the governor, Vijay was accompanied by Congress leader K Selvaperunthagai and representatives from supporting parties, including CPI(M) State Secretary P Shanmugam.


With the backing of VCK and IUML, the TVK's total seat count has now reached 120 in the 234-member Assembly.
