Celebrating Literary Excellence: Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025


New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Sahitya Akademi has announced that 24 authors across various languages will be honored with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for 2025, including English novelist and former ambassador Navtej Sarna and Hindi author Mamta Kalia.


This announcement follows the cancellation of a press conference that was initially scheduled for December 2025 to reveal the award winners.


In a statement, the Sahitya Akademi expressed its delight in recognizing literary works in 24 Indian languages, highlighting that the awards encompass 8 poetry collections, 4 novels, 6 short story compilations, 2 essays, 1 literary critique, 1 autobiography, and 2 memoirs.


Navtej Sarna will receive the award for his novel "Crimson Spring," while Mamta Kalia is recognized for her memoir "Jeete Jee Allahabad."


The award ceremony is set for March 31, where recipients will be presented with a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.


Other notable awardees include Prasun Bandyopadhyay for "Shrestha Kabita" in Bengali, Yogesh Vaidya for "Bhattkhadaki" in Gujarati, and Amresh Nugadoni for "Dada Seerisu Tande" in Kannada, among others.


The full list of awardees also features N Prabhakaran, Raju Baviskar, Jinder, Jitender Kumar Soni, Sa Tamilselvan, Pritpal Singh Betab, Nandini Sidha Reddy, Bhagwan Atlani, Sumitra Soren, Mahamahopadhyay Sahu Bhadreshdas, Girijakumar Baliyar Singh, Prakash Bhattarai, and Haobam Nalini.
