Assam Police Search for Pawan Khera

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Assam Police reported that they were unable to locate Congress leader Pawan Khera at his residence in Delhi, and his current location remains unknown as they continue efforts to 'trace him'.

Earlier in the day, police visited Khera's home in connection with the ongoing dispute regarding claims made by the Congress party about Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife allegedly possessing three passports. This investigation follows an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the Chief Minister's wife, on Monday.

A police spokesperson, addressing the media outside Khera's residence, stated, 'A case has been filed... We intended to speak with Pawan Khera... However, he was not present... We discovered some items in his home, but I cannot disclose specifics... We are currently unaware of his whereabouts, but we will locate him...'

In response, Chief Minister Sarma asserted that the allegations made by Khera regarding his wife's supposed foreign passports are 'completely false'.

Sarma emphasized that the governments of the three countries mentioned in the allegations have denied any claims regarding his wife's passports.

'The lies from Congress have been fully exposed. All three nations have refuted the assertions made by Pawan Khera,' he remarked.

The Chief Minister further noted that the Assam Police's visit to Khera's residence was part of their investigation, but he claimed that Khera was not found there.

'Pawan Khera has, in my opinion, absconded,' CM Sarma commented.

Later, he suggested that Khera might have fled to Hyderabad to avoid questioning, stating, 'He has likely escaped to Hyderabad.'

Sarma maintained that the allegations were politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing his and his family's reputation ahead of the elections. He assured that the state government would take legal action to hold accountable those spreading misinformation.

The controversy ignited when Khera accused Sarma's wife of holding multiple foreign passports, a claim that the Chief Minister and his family have vehemently denied.

Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera, have recently raised concerns about alleged foreign assets and connections of the Chief Minister's family, including claims regarding properties in Dubai and foreign documentation.

These allegations have been firmly rejected by Sarma and his family members. Riniki Sarma has also dismissed claims of any foreign business interests or assets, labeling the accusations as 'baseless'.
