What’s the Controversy Surrounding The Kerala Story 2? Court's Stay Raises Questions!
Court Issues Stay on The Kerala Story 2 Release
In a recent development, the creators of the anticipated film The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond have turned to the Supreme Court following an interim stay issued by the Kerala High Court on the film's release last Thursday.
The High Court observed that there seemed to be a lack of thorough consideration by the Censor Board in certifying the film.
Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas issued the stay while addressing two petitions that contested the film's release, highlighting that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) may not have adhered to guidelines meant to maintain social harmony.
The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond was originally scheduled to hit theaters on Friday. In an affidavit submitted on Wednesday, producer Vipul Shah emphasized that only the censor board holds the power to prevent a film's release.
This sequel follows the critically acclaimed The Kerala Story, which debuted in 2023, and narrates the experiences of three young women who reportedly enter into deceptive marriages and face forced religious conversions.
Previously, there were claims that the teaser for The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond was briefly available online before being removed from official social media platforms, sparking renewed discussions about the film's controversial themes.
In response to these claims, the production company, Sunshine Pictures, issued a statement clarifying that the reports regarding the teaser's removal are entirely false and misleading.
They stated, “Sunshine Pictures would like to categorically clarify that the news currently circulating regarding the removal of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond teaser is completely false, baseless, and misleading. The matter is presently sub judice. No judgment or order has been passed by any court directing the removal of any content. We have not deleted or taken down any material.”
The original The Kerala Story faced significant scrutiny, legal challenges, and political backlash due to its portrayal of sensitive societal issues.
