Strengthening India-Finland Relations
New Delhi: On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Finnish President Alexander Stubb to discuss enhancing bilateral relations ahead of the President's scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jaishankar expressed optimism that the discussions between President Stubb and Modi would further solidify the partnership between India and Finland.
In a post shared on X, Jaishankar stated, "I was pleased to meet President Alexander Stubb this morning in Delhi. I am confident that his meeting with PM Modi will enhance India-Finland relations."
He also mentioned looking forward to Stubb's address at the Raisina Dialogue later that evening.
President Stubb arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit to India, invited by Prime Minister Modi.
His stay in India will last until March 7, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation that includes ministers, senior officials, and notable business figures.
During this visit, he will participate in the 11th Raisina Dialogue from March 5 to 7, where he will be the Chief Guest and deliver the keynote speech.
This trip marks President Stubb's inaugural visit to India since taking office.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) indicated that Modi and Stubb would engage in extensive discussions aimed at boosting cooperation across various sectors. They are also expected to share insights on regional and global matters of mutual interest, including collaboration in international forums. A lunch will be hosted by the Prime Minister in honor of the visiting President.
While in India, President Stubb will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan.
After his engagements in the capital, he will head to Mumbai, where he will meet with Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In Mumbai, he plans to engage with Indian business leaders and take part in an India-Finland business event. Additionally, he is scheduled to speak to students at the University of Mumbai.
The MEA highlighted that India and Finland share a warm and multifaceted relationship based on common democratic values. Finland is recognized as a significant partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region.
The visit of President Stubb, following the recent trip by Finnish Prime Minister H.E. Petteri Orpo to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026, underscores both nations' commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors and fostering people-to-people connections.
