What’s Next for the Ram Temple Trust? Key Meeting to Address Donation Scandal
Crucial Meeting of the Ram Temple Trust
In Ayodhya, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is set to convene a significant meeting on Monday, focusing on the ongoing investigations into alleged misappropriation of donations. The agenda is expected to prominently feature the resignations of general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, as reported by Trust insiders.
The meeting will take place at Mani Ram Chhawni, the monastery of Trust president Nritya Gopal Das. Trust treasurer Govind Dev Giri has called for all regular and ex officio members to participate in the discussions.
Sources indicate that Trust president Nritya Gopal Das, currently hospitalized in critical condition, and senior trustee K Parasaran, who is unable to travel due to health issues, may join the meeting via video call.
The Trust is anticipated to deliberate on the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, both of whom stepped down following accusations related to the case.
Should their resignations be accepted, the meeting will likely explore the establishment of a new administrative framework for the Trust's operations. The role of special invitee Gopal Rao is also expected to be a topic of discussion.
Additionally, the meeting will likely include updates on the interim findings from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the alleged embezzlement, as well as plans for the future management of the Ram temple.
An unaudited income and expenditure statement, along with a balance sheet and other financial documents for the fiscal year 2025-26, are expected to be presented for approval.
Moreover, discussions regarding the appointment of a chief executive officer to manage the Ram temple's operations are anticipated during the meeting.
Currently, the Trust consists of 11 regular members, including president Nritya Gopal Das, treasurer Govind Dev Giri, and others.
With the resignations of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, along with the recent passing of trustee Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra, the Trust is currently without a vice president to lead meetings in the absence of the president.
Ex officio members include Union government secretary Prashant Lekhande, Uttar Pradesh government secretary Sanjay Prasad, Ayodhya District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi, and former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Nripendra Mishra.
This meeting occurs amidst two concurrent investigations into the alleged embezzlement. An SIT is conducting an administrative inquiry, with its tenure extended until the end of July, while the police are also investigating following an FIR filed based on the Trust's complaint.
Sources reveal that statements from Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, and special invitee Gopal Rao have been recorded by both the SIT and the police; however, no FIR has yet been filed against any of these Trust officials.
