What’s Next for India Amid the West Asia Crisis? All-Party Meeting Called!
Government Calls for Unity in Response to West Asia Crisis
New Delhi: An all-party meeting has been convened by the government to discuss the ongoing crisis in West Asia, according to sources.
This initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent address to Parliament regarding the situation in the region.
During his speech on Monday, Modi highlighted that the challenging global circumstances stemming from the West Asia conflict are expected to endure, urging the nation to stay united and prepared, similar to the solidarity shown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his Lok Sabha statement, the Prime Minister expressed concerns about the implications for fuel, fertilizers, national security, and the welfare of Indian nationals in West Asia, outlining measures taken by the government to minimize hardships for ordinary families. He emphasized the need for a unified message from India's Parliament to the world regarding this crisis.
Reiterating India's steadfast commitment to peace and humanity, Modi asserted that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable solutions, with all Indian efforts focused on de-escalation and halting hostilities.
The Congress party criticized Modi for failing to denounce the ongoing US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, labeling his Lok Sabha remarks on the West Asia crisis as a display of self-promotion, cowardice, and partisan rhetoric.
In his comments, the Prime Minister noted the significance of West Asia to India, given that nearly ten million Indians reside and work in Gulf nations, with many Indian crew members operating commercial vessels in those waters.
Due to these factors, India's concerns are understandably heightened. Thus, he stressed the importance of a cohesive and collective voice from Parliament to convey India's stance on this crisis to the global community.
