Karnataka Deputy CM Addresses Media on Rahul Gandhi Meeting

Bengaluru: D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, recently made headlines following a private conversation with senior Congress figure Rahul Gandhi. On Wednesday, he clarified that he would refrain from discussing internal party dialogues publicly.

Responding to media inquiries at the Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar stated, "As the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, it is not fitting to disclose details of my meeting with Rahul Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. You are creating misunderstandings. We have not sent or received any messages."

He further mentioned, "Our leadership has encouraged us to maintain our current momentum. I updated them on our initiatives related to NREGA and shared insights on the political dynamics within the state BJP."

When questioned about his social media post that read, "Efforts may fail, but prayers never do," he explained, "This is not a new sentiment for me. I shared my experiences with entrepreneurs during an event hosted by Vokkaliga industrialists."

Images and videos of Shivakumar and Gandhi engaged in a private discussion at Mysuru airport circulated widely, igniting speculation about potential leadership changes. The camp of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is closely monitoring these developments, especially with rumors suggesting that the party's high command might summon both leaders to Delhi for discussions following the Sankranti festival.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had indicated on Monday that the party leadership would reach out to both leaders as needed.

In the meantime, when asked about his upcoming trip to Delhi, Shivakumar confirmed, "I will be traveling to Delhi on January 16th."

Senior Congress MLA and Chief Whip Ashok Pattan informed reporters that Rahul Gandhi has invited both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar to Delhi to clarify the leadership situation.

Pattan's comments followed inquiries about the discussions between Gandhi and the two leaders at Mysuru airport on Tuesday. He stated, "All uncertainties will be addressed in Delhi."

"No discussions occurred with Rahul Gandhi yesterday. He has requested both leaders to come to Delhi and assured them that everything will be resolved. Both CM Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have been invited to Delhi. Shivakumar expressed his desire to speak with Rahul Gandhi, who then asked both leaders to come to Delhi," he added.
