Explosions Rock Punjab: A Disturbing Trend

Late Tuesday night, an explosion was reported near the army cantonment in Khasa, Amritsar, marking the second blast in just a few hours. This incident followed a previous explosion outside the Border Security Force's Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar.

Authorities are currently investigating both explosions, with no injuries reported so far. The first blast occurred around 8 PM in Jalandhar, while the second took place at approximately 11 PM in Amritsar.

Suhail Mir Qasim, Senior Superintendent of Police for Amritsar (Rural), stated that police were alerted to a loud noise around 11 PM. "Our teams responded promptly to the scene," he noted.

Initial assessments suggest that an explosive device was thrown against the boundary wall, causing the blast, according to the SSP. A piece of tin from the wall was found on the ground as a result of the explosion.

In response to the incident, forensic and bomb disposal teams were dispatched to gather evidence from the site.

Aditya S. Warrier, the Superintendent of Police for Amritsar Rural, confirmed ongoing investigations and mentioned that army officials also evaluated the situation, leading to the area being cordoned off.

CCTV footage captured the explosion at night, with a local resident recounting how the loud noise startled his family, prompting them to investigate.

Earlier in the evening, the first explosion in Jalandhar caused significant alarm. CCTV footage showed a cloud of smoke rising from the site, where an unidentified individual was seen fleeing.

The blast severely damaged a scooter parked outside the BSF headquarters, which belonged to Gurpreet Singh, a local parcel delivery person. Witnesses reported that the scooter caught fire shortly after the explosion.

Gurpreet's relative shared that he was approaching the scooter when it ignited, prompting him to call his father immediately.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur confirmed that the Activa scooter caught fire unexpectedly, and Gurpreet is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing a loud noise following the explosion.

This recent incident follows an explosion on April 27 at a freight corridor rail track in Shambhu, Patiala, where police arrested four individuals linked to a pro-Khalistan terror group allegedly supported by Pakistan's ISI.

In light of these events, opposition parties have criticized the AAP government for its management of security in the state.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), condemned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who also oversees the home portfolio, for the recent blasts.

He expressed concern over the frequency of explosions, stating, "Three blasts in ten days, two in one day, indicate serious intelligence failures and a breakdown of law and order. The Chief Minister is preoccupied with trivial matters and has lost the right to govern."

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring also criticized the Mann administration, stating, "The back-to-back blasts are alarming. Who is attempting to destabilize Punjab? The government must be held accountable for these security lapses."
