What’s Behind the INDIA Bloc's Protest Against Election Commissioner Gyanesh?
Protest March Planned by INDIA Bloc
New Delhi: The INDIA coalition is set to organize a protest march in Delhi on Monday, targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh over allegations of 'vote theft.' A senior Congress leader, KC Venugopal, announced that a group of prominent leaders will also present a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India, seeking intervention in this pressing issue.
Venugopal urged all citizens who value democracy to participate in the upcoming protest, which he described as 'massive,' aimed at addressing the alleged 'vote chori' orchestrated by the Modi-Shah administration.
He mentioned that a strategic meeting was held with various leaders to finalize plans for the march.
The protest will see participation from INDIA MPs, leaders, and concerned citizens, with a delegation set to approach Chief Justice Surya Kant to address the ongoing crisis. Venugopal emphasized that Gyanesh's resignation is non-negotiable.
These statements follow a meeting where opposition leaders presented their 'vote chori' claims to President Droupadi Murmu, demanding Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and the annulment of all Assembly elections conducted in the past two years.
After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi expressed his astonishment that the President did not refute the allegations of election misconduct.
Gandhi also indicated that opposition leaders would visit the Supreme Court on Monday to deliver a memorandum to Chief Justice Surya Kant, exploring all available legal avenues.
The opposition has been actively protesting since Tuesday, when they attempted to march from Parliament to the Election Commission's office but were halted. Rahul Gandhi even conducted an eight-hour sit-in at the Akashvani Bhawan complex.
On Wednesday and Thursday, opposition MPs had lunch in central Delhi before marching to Jantar Mantar and Rajghat, accusing Modi, Shah, and the Chief Election Commissioner of executing a criminal conspiracy involving 'vote chori.'
The opposition's intensified efforts come in the wake of a report revealing internal discord within the Election Commission, with election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raising objections on multiple occasions regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Recently, the INDIA bloc established a collaborative action plan concerning the SIR issue, which includes organizing rallies and 'save democracy' marches.
