Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Seychelles on Saturday for a three-day official trip. During his visit, he is set to engage in discussions with President Patrick Herminie and participate in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the National Day of Seychelles.


Upon his arrival at Seychelles International Airport, Modi received a warm welcome from President Herminie and a distinguished delegation. He was also honored with a ceremonial Guard of Honour.


In a post on X, Modi expressed gratitude for the reception he received, stating, "Landed in Seychelles. Deeply appreciate the warm welcome extended at the airport by Dr. Patrick Herminie."

Modi emphasized the importance of Seychelles as a maritime ally and a close friend in the Indian Ocean, expressing his eagerness for a fruitful visit that aims to enhance cooperation for the benefit of both nations.


Before departing from New Delhi, he highlighted Seychelles as a significant maritime neighbor and a crucial partner in the 'Vision MAHASAGAR,' which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions, reflecting India's commitment to the Global South.


Invited by President Herminie, Modi will serve as the Guest of Honour at the National Day festivities.


Indian armed forces will also be represented at the celebrations, with two Indian Navy ships participating.


Modi expressed his anticipation for bilateral talks that would further solidify the enduring friendship between the two countries.


He stated, "Together, we will work to advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region."


The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of bilateral cooperation and address regional and international matters of shared interest.


Additionally, the Prime Minister will address the National Assembly of Seychelles and engage with members of the Indian diaspora.


This marks Modi's first visit to Seychelles since 2015, while President Herminie visited India earlier this year.


The office of the President of Seychelles noted that Modi's visit underscores the long-standing friendship and partnership between the two nations, which have maintained diplomatic relations since Seychelles gained independence in 1976.


The leaders are anticipated to engage in discussions aimed at further enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including maritime security, defense, healthcare, education, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
