Tamil Nadu Elections: DMK's Strategic Move


Chennai: As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections draw near, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is poised to unveil the highly awaited DMK manifesto today, marking a significant advancement in the party's campaign strategy ahead of the elections.


The state will hold elections in a single phase on April 23, with the vote counting set for May 4.


Nomination papers for the 234-member Assembly commenced on March 30 and will be accepted until April 6, a critical period in the electoral timeline.


The main competitors in this anticipated contest are the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Additionally, independent parties like Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) will also be participating, creating a multi-faceted electoral landscape.


The seat-sharing arrangement within the DMK-led coalition showcases a diverse alliance of parties.


The Congress party will contest 28 seats, while the MDMK has been allocated four. Other coalition partners include the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (two seats), Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (two), Indian Union Muslim League (two), CPI (five), CPI(M) (five), VCK (eight), and the DMDK with ten seats.


Prior to the manifesto launch, CM Stalin revealed the DMK’s candidate list of 164, marking an essential preparatory milestone for the ruling party.


The manifesto is anticipated to feature numerous welfare initiatives and development commitments aimed at voters, likely influencing public sentiment throughout the campaign.


Conversely, the AIADMK, under the leadership of former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has already presented a series of populist pledges, including free rice for ration card holders, financial aid of Rs 10,000 per family, and three complimentary LPG cylinders annually.


As the campaign heats up, both major alliances are expected to ramp up their outreach efforts across Tamil Nadu, setting the stage for a competitive electoral showdown.
