Massive Gathering in Delhi for CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' Protest

New Delhi: On Monday, a diverse crowd, including children who slipped away from home, elderly individuals who traveled from various states, and students brandishing placards, converged in Delhi for the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) 'Chalo Sansad' demonstration.

As dawn broke, central Delhi transformed into a bustling hub of activity, with protesters waving flags and chanting slogans while marching towards Parliament.

Many participants carried backpacks after an overnight journey by train or bus, while others shielded themselves with umbrellas as rain poured down. Police in riot gear lined the streets, with buses on standby to detain demonstrators and barricades blocking all access to Parliament.

As the crowd advanced towards Parliament, law enforcement halted them at various checkpoints using multiple layers of barricades.

Tear gas was deployed, and police resorted to baton charges near Parliament Street, Patel Chowk, Rail Bhawan, and other locations as protesters attempted to breach the barricades. Clashes resulted in injuries on both sides, and internet services were suspended in parts of central Delhi.

The march commenced from Jantar Mantar, where the CJP has been conducting a sit-in since June 20, coinciding with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. This event also occurred while educationist Sonam Wangchuk remained hospitalized.

The gathering featured schoolchildren, college students, parents, and senior citizens. Some children donned school uniforms, while others wore costumes resembling cockroaches.

Protesters navigated narrow lanes to avoid police barricades, seeking shortcuts to get closer to Parliament after main roads were sealed off.

Despite being pushed back, demonstrators regrouped, waiting near barricades and attempting to advance again. Some climbed over barriers, while others sat on the ground chanting slogans, undeterred by the rain and police actions.

Prakash, a protester, claimed that the march was peaceful, yet police responded with force. "There are elderly individuals collapsing... But the police did not relent," he stated.

Nearby, Sandeep, a student from Delhi, sat on the pavement nursing a head injury, alleging he was struck during a baton charge near Parliament Street. "They hit me on the head, and then they dragged me here by force," he recounted.

"If we back down, we would be labeled cowards. They send their own children abroad for education, but what about us?" he expressed. Inside Parliament, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced repeated adjournments due to protests from Opposition members regarding the CJP-led demonstration.

Outside, a standoff persisted between protesters and police throughout the day, characterized by rain, chants, sirens, and ongoing attempts to breach barricades in the heart of the national capital.
