Celebrating Odia Cinema: 'Pushkara' Shines at National Film Awards


Bhubaneswar: The film 'Pushkara', an impactful adaptation of the Odia novel 'Nadabindu', has been awarded the title of Best Odia Film at the 71st National Film Awards, as revealed on Friday.


This accolade is a significant achievement for Odia cinema and particularly for Subhranshu Das, the film's debut director, who transitioned from cinematography to directing. Produced by Tarang Cine Productions, 'Pushkara' is inspired by the renowned work of author Sankar Tripathy. Released in 2023, the film features Sabyasachi Mishra in the lead role, alongside Supriya Nayak, Ashrumochan Mohanty, and Choudhury Bikash Das.


The film also honors the late Pintu Nanda, whose performance is fondly remembered. 'Pushkara' narrates the poignant tale of Neelakantha, a swindler who masquerades as a holy man named Pushkara, exploiting the faith of the people for his own benefit. His life takes a dramatic turn when he falls in love with a widow, leading to unexpected outcomes.


Additionally, a Special Mention was awarded to the Odia documentary 'The Sea And The Seven Villages', directed by Himanshu Khatua, which chronicles the experiences of displaced coastal communities in Satabhaya.
