Political Shockwaves in Bihar

Patna: The political landscape in Bihar experienced a significant upheaval on Monday as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced his resignation from the state legislative council, prompting strong reactions from both the JD(U) and NDA parties. The opposition quickly claimed that Kumar was 'forced' to step down.

Following his election to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, both Kumar and BJP national president Nitin Nabin tendered their resignations from the legislative council and Assembly.

Numerous leaders within the ruling coalition expressed their dismay over Kumar's departure from the state legislature.

Awadhesh Narayan Singh, the chairman of the legislative council, remarked, 'The people of Bihar are not pleased with Nitish ji's resignation. He was a forward-thinking chief minister who united everyone. His resignation will leave a lasting impact.'

Reflecting on a prior meeting with Kumar, Singh noted, 'While we are visibly saddened by his choice, he showed no signs of distress. It’s hard to understand what he is truly feeling.'

Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar shared his long-standing association with Nitish, stating, 'I have known Nitish ji since the JP Movement in the 1970s. His contributions to governance and legislative matters have been outstanding. His absence will be felt deeply.'

BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi praised Kumar for his role in Bihar's development, asserting, 'Nitish ji has lifted Bihar from the 'Jungle Raj' and steered it towards progress.' He also congratulated Nabin on his Rajya Sabha election and the expanded responsibilities given to him.

JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary explained that Kumar's resignation was a constitutional necessity following his Rajya Sabha election.

Another party member, Ashok Choudhary, expressed his emotions, stating, 'He will always be our leader, but his guidance in the House will be sorely missed. Today is a challenging day for Bihar.'

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav accused Kumar of being 'forced' to resign, claiming, 'The BJP has deceived him and the entire electorate of Bihar.'

RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav supported this sentiment, alleging that Kumar had been 'trapped' by the BJP and suggesting that the JD(U) was approaching its demise.
