What Led to Chandrima Bhattacharya's Sudden Exit from Trinamool Congress?
Chandrima Bhattacharya Resigns from Trinamool Congress Leadership
Kolkata: In a significant blow to the Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the Trinamool Congress, Chandrima Bhattacharya, the party's Bengal state president, announced her resignation on Saturday. This decision comes just a month after she took on this vital role following the party's disappointing performance in the assembly elections.
In her resignation letter to the party chairperson, Bhattacharya also relinquished all other positions she held, leading to speculation about her potential departure from the party altogether.
Previously serving as a minister in Mamata Banerjee's government, where she oversaw critical departments such as Finance and Health, Bhattacharya was a key figure in the party and led its women's wing. She has also stepped down as the party's authorized signatory for its bank accounts and as Banerjee's representative to the Election Commission.
Bhattacharya was appointed as state president during a national working committee meeting at Banerjee's Kalighat residence on June 5, succeeding senior leader Subrata Bakshi.
A three-time MLA, she faced a significant defeat against BJP's Sourav Sikdar in the Dum Dum Uttar constituency during the 2026 assembly elections.
