New Delhi: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The leaders engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors, including trade, defense, and the economy.

Prior to his meeting with PM Modi, President Putin honored Mahatma Gandhi by laying a wreath at Rajghat, accompanied by Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs.

Earlier that day, Putin received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was also given a guard of honor.

The Russian leader's schedule was packed, including a business event later in the day and a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in the evening.

At Bharat Mandapam, Putin will participate in a business event focused on enhancing commercial and investment ties. Later, he will join President Murmu for a banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Putin's State Visit to India commenced on Thursday evening, marked by a personal gesture from PM Modi, who greeted him at the airport and shared a vehicle with him.

During their meeting, PM Modi gifted President Putin a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita, highlighting its inspirational value worldwide.

On social media, PM Modi shared a photo of the moment, stating, "Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world."

This visit follows PM Modi's trip to Moscow in July 2024, where he was hosted by Putin at his residence. These high-level meetings underscore the ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, which both nations view as stable and strategically essential.

India has long regarded Russia as a reliable partner, with the development of their relationship being a cornerstone of India's foreign policy. Since the signing of the "Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership" in October 2000, the collaboration between the two countries has evolved significantly, enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including politics, security, defense, trade, economy, science, technology, culture, and people-to-people interactions.
