Notable attendees included Tejashwi Yadav and Manoj Jha from the RJD, Mahua Maji of the JMM, and members from the SP, CPI-M, CPI, and TMC, among others.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi, the head of the Congress Parliamentary Party, were also present, along with other prominent party figures.
Gandhi took to X to express his invitation, stating that this gathering is part of a collective effort to safeguard democracy, emphasizing unity in their cause.
He mentioned that after their tea, they would collectively address the media, asserting that all protests are interconnected.
Sources indicated that discussions regarding strategies for coordinated protests against alleged electoral fraud and calls for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar were on the agenda.
This meeting followed significant protests regarding vote theft allegations, which escalated to the Supreme Court level. Opposition leaders, activists, and civil society members participated in a March for Democracy, showcasing their strength in the capital.
During the march, a large crowd gathered in Connaught Place, with prominent figures like Gandhi, Kharge, and Mamata Banerjee leading the charge.
Although protesters managed to breach one barricade, they were stopped at another. Subsequently, key leaders from the INDIA bloc proceeded to file a petition with the Supreme Court.
The petition includes the Election Commission of India and its officials as parties involved, following the Chief Justice of India's refusal to meet with opposition leaders, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
