What Happened During Vijay's Oath-Taking Ceremony in Tamil Nadu?
Vijay's Oath-Taking Ceremony Takes an Unexpected Turn
Chennai: During the oath-taking ceremony on Sunday, TVK leader Vijay attempted to transform the event into a powerful speech, deviating from the official script. His gestures aimed to convey strength, but Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar stepped in, urging him to stick to the prescribed oath.
As the Governor began administering the oath, Vijay went off-script, declaring, “I, C Joseph Vijay, will uphold the Constitution of India... As Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, I pledge to fulfill my duties with honesty and dedication. I will respect the rule of law, promote harmony, and serve all communities. This I swear before God.” He raised his right hand and clenched his fist as he made this declaration.
A Rajmohan, the MLA-elect from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, stood behind Vijay, applauding enthusiastically, while party supporters celebrated joyfully. Vijay's parents, filmmaker S A Chandrasekhar and Shoba, were visibly emotional in the front row.
The Governor then reminded Vijay to read the official oath from the document provided. After seeking clarification, Vijay complied and recited the written oath.
Following the oath, and after his ministers were sworn in, Vijay introduced three welfare initiatives focused on electricity, women's safety, and drug eradication at the stadium.
