What Did US Ambassador Sergio Gor Discuss with RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra?
Strengthening US-India Relations
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, recently visited Mumbai, where he had a significant meeting with Sanjay Malhotra, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration between the two nations.
During his inaugural visit to Mumbai, Gor also took the opportunity to stop by the US Consulate. He expressed his enthusiasm on social media, stating, "I thoroughly enjoyed my meeting with RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra. We explored avenues for increased cooperation, particularly in relation to cutting-edge US technology."
Gor revealed that India is set to receive an invitation next month to join Pax Silica, a strategic technology initiative spearheaded by the US, which focuses on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and essential supply chains.
In a previous update on social media, he shared his excitement about starting his Mumbai visit at the Consulate, highlighting the efforts of his team to strengthen the US-India partnership.
He noted that trade discussions between India and the United States are ongoing, with further talks anticipated soon.
After assuming his role, Gor emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in trade negotiations, although he did not disclose specific agenda items. He did mention that follow-up meetings between officials from both countries are on the horizon.
Gor aims to fortify the relationship between what he referred to as the world's oldest and largest democracies.
He characterized Pax Silica as a newly launched initiative aimed at establishing a secure and innovative silicon supply chain, encompassing critical minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI, and logistics. Countries like Japan, South Korea, the UK, and Israel have already joined this initiative's initial phase.
As emerging technologies continue to evolve, Gor stressed the necessity for India and the US to collaborate closely from the outset of such initiatives.
