Election Results Spark Controversy

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal shared a digitally created image aimed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, following the party's disappointing performance in the Legislative Council elections across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Karnataka, where they did not secure any of the 28 contested seats.

The image portrayed Rahul Gandhi as a petrol station attendant, with a fuel dispenser indicating the four states involved in the elections, while the meter read '0.00', symbolizing Congress's election results.

Goyal shared this image on social media with the caption, 'Zero check karlo Bhai'.

This post was part of a larger social media initiative by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the election results, which they used to criticize Congress for failing to win any seats in the elections across the four states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders also targeted Congress, particularly in light of the party's ongoing criticisms of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and calls for a return to traditional ballot-paper voting.

The ruling party contended that the election results contradicted the opposition's claims regarding the integrity of the electoral process.

Earlier that day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to Rahul Gandhi's comments, accusing him of politicizing issues and making unfounded allegations against Indian industry after he claimed that the Tata Group was being 'criminally destroyed'.

Sitharaman advised Gandhi, 'As the Leader of the Opposition, I suggest you refrain from politicizing every issue. Also, casually labeling commercial and legal matters as criminal is unacceptable.'

Gandhi had previously asserted that Indian businesses were being treated as the 'plaything' of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, stating, 'Tata is being criminally destroyed, and no business leader dares say a word. How long will you stay silent? Until they own you?'
