India's Call for Stability in West Asia

Tehran: India has emphasized the necessity of re-establishing stability and security in West Asia, expressing its backing for ongoing initiatives aimed at halting the conflict, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in a phone discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday, where they addressed the latest developments concerning the West Asian situation.

The Iranian Foreign Minister pointed out what he termed as serious offenses committed by US and Israeli forces against the Iranian populace, which include assaults on industrial and production facilities, as well as peaceful nuclear sites under international safeguards. He also noted the ongoing threats from US officials regarding potential strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure, as stated by Iran's Foreign Ministry following their conversation.

During their dialogue, Araghchi underscored the obligation of the international community and the United Nations to address breaches of international law and to prevent the normalization of war crimes.

He reiterated the unwavering resolve of Iran's citizens and military to safeguard national interests and security, cautioning about the wider implications of US and Israeli military actions on both regional and global stability.

Jaishankar, acknowledging the critical need for restoring stability in the area, conveyed India's support for ongoing regional and international efforts to cease hostilities, as per the Ministry's statement.

Earlier on Sunday, Jaishankar mentioned that he had received a call from Araghchi, during which they discussed the current situation in the region.

In a post on X, Jaishankar stated, "Received a call from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran. Discussed the present situation."

However, he did not provide further details regarding the specifics of their conversation.

This interaction occurs against a backdrop of escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route. The area has witnessed increased military activity and heightened rhetoric from various parties, raising fears of a broader conflict.
