What Caused British Airways Flight to Turn Back to London Just After Takeoff?
Emergency U-Turn for British Airways Flight
London: A British Airways flight was forced to return to the UK shortly after departing for Chicago on Monday, as indicated by flight tracking information.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft landed safely back at Heathrow Airport due to a "technical issue," allowing passengers to disembark without incident.
A spokesperson for British Airways emphasized, "The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority. Our skilled pilots safely returned to Heathrow after encountering a technical issue."
The spokesperson added, "Passengers disembarked normally, and our teams are working diligently to assist them in rescheduling their travel plans as swiftly as possible."
Earlier, Flight BA295 had declared an emergency shortly after takeoff, experiencing a sudden and steep descent while flying over Ireland at approximately 11:50 AM local time.
The Boeing 777-200ER was scheduled for an eight-hour and 40-minute flight to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD).
However, about an hour into the flight, the aircraft reached its cruising altitude of 37,000 feet when it encountered a problem, triggering the international aviation signal for a general emergency.
Flight tracking data revealed that the plane executed a rapid descent, dropping from 37,000 feet to 9,000 feet in just a few minutes.
