Kolkata Prepares for Voter List Publication

Kolkata: Today marks the publication of the final voters’ list in West Bengal, categorizing voters into three main groups: 'Approved', 'Under Adjudication', and 'Deleted'.

The 'Approved' group consists of individuals confirmed as legitimate voters.

Those listed as 'Under Adjudication' are voters flagged for 'logical discrepancies', with their identity documents awaiting review by designated judicial officers.

Supplementary lists will be released periodically for these 'Under Adjudication' voters, contingent on the progress of judicial evaluations following the final list's release.

Currently, approximately 60 lakh voters have been flagged for judicial review due to 'logical discrepancies'.

The 'Deleted' category includes names that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has already marked for removal from the final voters’ list.

In the draft voters’ list published last December, 59 lakh names were removed due to reasons such as being 'deceased', 'duplicate', 'shifted', or 'missing'.

The final count of deletions will become clearer after the final voters’ list is published today, although the complete picture will only emerge after the last supplementary list is issued.

As of Friday afternoon, North 24 Parganas reported the highest number of 'Under Adjudication' cases at 5.90 lakh, followed by South 24 Parganas (5.20 lakh), West Midnapore (1 lakh), East Midnapore (80,000), Kolkata Dakshin (78,000), and Kolkata Uttar (60,000).

To promote transparency, the ECI will provide soft copies of the final list to registered political parties in the state. Voters can check their names in the final roll through various online platforms.

Individuals can visit the Election Commission of India's official website at eci.gov.in and enter their name along with their EPIC number to verify their status.

Alternatively, they can check the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's website at ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in.

District Electoral Officers' (DEOs) websites also offer verification options.

For those preferring offline methods, the ECI will distribute copies of the final voters’ list to Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), who can assist voters in confirming their details.

Additionally, hard copies of the final list will be available at polling booths, allowing voters to check their names in person.
