Election Commission Releases Updated Voter List for West Bengal

The Election Commission of India unveiled the revised voter list for West Bengal on Saturday following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). As of February 28, 2026, the state has a total of 70,459,284 registered voters, with 546,053 names removed from the list through Form 7.

Voter Count Surpasses 7.04 Crore in Bengal

Manoj Kumar Agarwal, the Chief Electoral Officer, announced that the updated voter list for West Bengal now exceeds 7.04 crore. This figure reflects the adjustments made during the revision process, where over 546,000 names were removed and more than 182,000 new names were added via Forms 6 and 6A.

Missing Forms Affect Voter Count

Agarwal noted that over 5.8 million counting forms were unaccounted for, which included cases of deceased, relocated, and duplicate voters. Additionally, he mentioned that more than 6 million voters fall under the "under adjudication" category but have been included in the post-SIR voter roll. He assured that the revision process adhered to the guidelines set by the Election Commission.

Political Reactions Following Post-SIR Electoral Roll Release

The publication of the post-SIR electoral roll on Saturday has stirred political activity in Bhawanipur, the constituency of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Over 47,000 names were removed from this list, with more than 14,000 names placed under review. The Bhawanipur assembly seat, traditionally viewed as Banerjee's stronghold, had 206,295 voters when the SIR process commenced on November 4 of the previous year.
