Kolkata, May 25: The health department of West Bengal is rolling out a new system of official ID cards featuring distinct color codes for various categories of healthcare professionals working in state-operated medical facilities, including hospitals and medical colleges.

This initiative began on Monday and is set to conclude by May 28.

A recent notification from the Director of Health Services outlined the specific color codes assigned to different healthcare staff categories.

Doctors will receive purple ID cards, while technicians will be issued orange ones.

Administrative personnel will have black cards, and nursing staff will be identified by brown cards.

Support staff will be given bottle green cards, security personnel will have deep maroon, miscellaneous staff will receive mustard yellow, and outsourced workers will be assigned blue cards.

This new color-coded ID system is being implemented following directives from senior officials within the state health department.

The notification emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance professional appearance, discipline, and proper identification among all personnel.

Each building within the state medical facilities will have a designated nodal person responsible for overseeing the implementation of this project, ensuring coordination and supervision of all related activities.

Medical facility authorities have been instructed to secure a high-speed broadband connection and provide an office desk to facilitate the project's success.

Given the tight four-day timeline for implementation, the state health department has urged all medical facility authorities to take prompt action and inform employees to register their details at the designated desk without delay.
