West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose Resigns Ahead of Assembly Elections
Governor's Resignation Announcement
On Thursday, CV Ananda Bose, the Governor of West Bengal, officially resigned from his position, as confirmed by his officer on special duty.
Bose, who took office in November 2022, submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, according to reports.
In a statement, Bose expressed that he had “spent enough time” in the Governor's office, confirming the news of his resignation.
Reactions from Political Leaders
West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, expressed her shock and concern regarding the unexpected resignation, stating that she was unaware of the reasons behind it.
Banerjee took to social media to suggest that Bose might have been under pressure from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to act in favor of certain political interests ahead of the upcoming State Assembly elections.
She also mentioned that Shah had informed her about the potential appointment of RN Ravi, the current Governor of Tamil Nadu, as Bose's successor.
Banerjee criticized the decision, claiming it was made without consulting the state government, which she argued undermines the Constitution of India and threatens the federal structure.
Upcoming Elections
The resignation of the governor occurs just before the Assembly elections in West Bengal, which are anticipated to take place in April or May.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
