Governor's Appeal for Remembrance Day

On August 9, Kolkata - R.N. Ravi, the Governor of West Bengal, urged universities and affiliated institutions in the state to commemorate August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.' He encouraged the public, particularly the youth, to participate in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. According to a statement released by Lok Bhawan, Ravi requested all government and private universities, along with their associated colleges and institutions, to gather students, teachers, and parents next Friday to reflect on 'the horrors of partition and its impact on Bengal.'

The statement highlighted that for several years, August 14 has been observed as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' to honor those who lost their lives due to the partition of the country. It noted that Bengal endured severe tragedies during this period, with millions facing displacement, loss of life and property, and significant social, cultural, and economic upheaval.

Furthermore, the statement indicated that this event would aid the younger generation in understanding the suffering of those affected by the partition and the circumstances that led to it. It also aims to raise awareness against forces attempting to divide society. In another appeal, Ravi urged the people of the state, especially the youth, to hoist the national flag at their homes and workplaces as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative.
