West Bengal Government Promises Justice in BarUIPur Rape-Murder Case
Government's Commitment to Justice
Following the assurance from West Bengal's Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari regarding stringent punishment in the BarUIPur rape-murder case, the state's Urban Development Minister, Agnimitra Paul, met with the victim's family on Tuesday. She reassured them that the perpetrator would face a punishment that serves as a deterrent for others, reiterating the state government's commitment to ensuring justice.
Paul emphasized that the victim's family has been assured of prompt justice. She claimed that the family expressed satisfaction with the government's response. After her meeting with the family, Paul stated that the accused had been apprehended within 24 hours. She assured that no one would be spared and that they would receive the harshest penalties. Furthermore, she mentioned that if any negligence was found on the part of the police or administration during the investigation, they too would not be exempt from consequences. The Chief Minister has made the government's stance very clear.
The visit by the BJP delegation, led by Agnimitra Paul and Locket Chatterjee, occurred prior to Adhikari's scheduled visit later that day to meet the victim's family. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the case, requesting a detailed report from the state's Director General of Police (DGP) on the progress of the investigation and actions taken within seven days.
The NCW has also sought information from the police regarding an alleged lynching incident that occurred following the case, where a suspect was reportedly beaten to death by a mob. Tensions escalated in the Dhapdhapi area of BarUIPur on Sunday morning when the body of a minor girl was discovered in a pond. Local residents blocked roads and railways, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the rape and murder.
