Allegations Rejected by Election Office

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in West Bengal has dismissed allegations made against election officials regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list as baseless.

In an official statement, the CEO's office acknowledged various press releases indicating that complaints had been filed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the state's CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal.

This statement from the CEO's office follows the tragic incident in Purulia district, where an 82-year-old man, Durjan Manjhi, reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Authorities noted that Manjhi was supposed to appear at the office of the Block Development Officer in Para for a hearing related to the SIR process.

The CEO's office characterized the accusations against officials fulfilling their legal duties related to SIR 2026 as a "despicable attempt at intimidation."
