West Bengal Chief Minister Unveils New Welfare Initiatives

West Bengal's Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a series of welfare initiatives aimed at supporting women and providing affordable meals. Key measures include a ban on liquor stores near educational institutions and temples, along with the launch of the "Annapurna Scheme" offering financial aid to eligible women. Additionally, the state plans to establish subsidized canteens providing meals at a nominal price. These initiatives are expected to benefit millions across the state, enhancing community welfare and support.
 

New Announcements by the Chief Minister

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari of West Bengal made several significant announcements in Kalyani aimed at enhancing welfare and regulatory measures. Among these initiatives is a ban on liquor stores within a one-kilometer radius of educational institutions and temples. Additionally, a monthly financial assistance program for women and a subsidized fish-rice meal scheme across the state were introduced.


The Chief Minister emphasized that no liquor shops will be permitted near schools, colleges, and temples. Another key announcement was the launch of the "Annapurna Scheme," which will begin accepting applications from May 27. This initiative is expected to provide eligible women with a monthly financial aid of ₹3,000, benefiting millions throughout the state.


Furthermore, Adhikari announced the establishment of subsidized canteens across West Bengal, where fish-rice meals will be offered at just ₹5. Approximately 400 specialized canteens are planned to ensure affordable meals for the public.
