Weather Transformation in Northern and Central India

After several days of extreme heat and life-threatening conditions in northern and central India, the weather has finally taken a turn. On Tuesday night, a sudden thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds swept through the skies of Delhi-NCR, bringing a refreshing change.

Today's Weather Forecast for Delhi-NCR

According to the meteorological department, the weather in Delhi and its neighboring cities (Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad) is expected to be partly cloudy throughout the day today (Wednesday). There is a strong likelihood of another severe dust storm with thunder and lightning in the afternoon or evening. The maximum temperature in the capital is anticipated to be around 43.5 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than the previous highs of 45-46 degrees.

Rainfall Alert for Delhi-NCR

Residents of Delhi-NCR can look forward to some good news as the oppressive heat is set to ease. The meteorological department has predicted widespread thunderstorms and heavy rainfall (Monsoon Pre-showers) on June 11 and 12. During this period, winds could reach speeds of 50 to 60 km/h, accompanied by showers. This change is expected to drop the maximum temperature in Delhi to around 35 to 37 degrees Celsius on June 12, providing significant relief from the heat.

Impact of Western Disturbance

Meteorologists attribute this sudden change in weather in northern India to an active Western Disturbance. Rainfall was recorded in several areas of Delhi and Gurugram on Tuesday night, while early Wednesday saw strong winds and rain in parts of Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. This pre-monsoon activity has cleared dust particles from the air, leading to improved air quality.

Monsoon Progress: South-West Monsoon Advances

While the Western Disturbance is active in northern India, the South-West Monsoon is rapidly advancing across other parts of the country. According to the latest report from the meteorological department, the monsoon has covered a significant portion of the country as per its schedule.

Current Status of the Monsoon

In Southern India: Most parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, large areas of Karnataka, and several regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

In Western India: Parts of Goa and Maharashtra.

In North-Eastern India: The monsoon is fully active across all North-Eastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Heavy Rainfall Alert for Several Regions

The meteorological department has also issued a heavy rainfall alert for Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, North-Eastern India, and some areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal over the next five to seven days. Meanwhile, rain is expected in parts of North-West India on June 11 and 12 due to the influence of the Western Disturbance, with possibilities of thunderstorms, strong winds of 50-60 km/h, and hail in some areas.
