On Sunday, VVS Laxman, the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Centre of Excellence (CoE), expressed admiration for the legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, describing him as a model professional. Laxman emphasized that Kohli consistently maintains high personal standards and strives to achieve them in every match, serving as an inspiration for both young players and his teammates.

"There is no doubt that Virat exemplifies professionalism. The standards he sets for himself are something he aims to meet every time he plays for any team," Laxman stated during a press conference in Bengaluru.

"This is why he stands out as a great role model, and many young players aspire to follow in his footsteps," he added.

Laxman Addresses Injury Concerns

Laxman also defended the CoE amidst concerns regarding the increasing number of injuries among Indian players. He pointed out that injuries are an unavoidable aspect of a cricketer's journey and emphasized the importance of monitoring and managing player health rather than blaming the CoE or seeking scapegoats. Notable players like Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar are currently facing fitness issues.

"The CoE is not just a rehabilitation facility; it plays a crucial role in helping cricketers reach their peak performance," Laxman remarked.

Challenges in Filling Key Role at CoE

Laxman also discussed the ongoing search for a new Head of Sports Science and Medicine (SSM) at the CoE, noting that the BCCI has encountered challenges in finding a qualified candidate. He highlighted that the role demands not only expertise and experience but also a deep understanding of the needs of Indian cricketers.

"Since Nitin Patel's departure, we have struggled to find someone to fill his role. Although everything was settled, Andrew Leipus withdrew due to family commitments," Laxman explained.
