The second and final phase of voting for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 kicked off on Wednesday. Notably, actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was among the first voters in Kolkata. He arrived at the Subhokhon Community Hall in Belgachia and joined the queue as voting commenced. His presence at the polling booth attracted significant attention, yet he chose to wait patiently like other citizens before casting his vote.
After voting, Mithun spoke to the media, stating that he had not requested any special arrangements. He expressed confidence that the voting process would proceed smoothly and peacefully.

In his interaction with the media after casting his vote, Mithun remarked, 'Like any ordinary citizen, I did not ask for any special arrangements. I am fully confident that the voting process will be conducted smoothly, and I commend the Election Commission for ensuring all necessary arrangements. I believe the elections will be successfully completed.' The official commencement of the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 has begun, following extensive mock polls conducted in key areas of the state.
Final Phase Voting Underway
The scale of the final phase is substantial, encompassing nearly half of the total assembly seats in the state, specifically 142 seats. Approximately 3.21 crore voters are eligible to participate. A total of 1,448 candidates, including 220 women, are contesting across 41,001 polling stations. Notably, over 8,000 polling stations are being managed entirely by women. This second phase of the state elections is crucial, with voting taking place for 142 out of 294 assembly seats. The eligible voter count includes 1,64,35,627 men, 1,57,37,418 women, and 792 third-gender voters. The results of the West Bengal elections will be announced on May 4, alongside the results from elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
