The counting of votes for the Koridang Assembly constituency bypoll is scheduled for May 4, with all logistical and security preparations in place. Following recent election-related violence, extensive security measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth process. Six candidates are contesting, including the BJP nominee and representatives from Congress and the National People’s Party. The results are expected to be announced by the afternoon, following a successful polling turnout of over 82%.

Kohima, May 3: All necessary logistical and security measures have been finalized for the counting of votes in the Koridang Assembly constituency bypoll, which is set to occur on May 4, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.

According to Returning Officer Nockpai Konyak, the counting center located at the Deputy Commissioner’s office has been thoroughly organized, featuring a structured layout with specific tables designated for counting staff, observers, and representatives of the candidates to facilitate a seamless and transparent counting process.

The counting will commence at 8 am, utilizing 10 tables across three rounds.

In light of the election-related violence that occurred on April 5 and 6, resulting in one fatality and damage to vehicles, extensive security measures have been implemented.

Officials have stated that a comprehensive security framework, including CCTV monitoring and strict access controls, will be enforced at the counting venue.

The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), currently secured in strong rooms under constant surveillance, will be opened in the presence of candidates or their authorized representatives, adhering to the guidelines set by the Election Commission.

Authorities have assured that counting personnel have received adequate training and that all necessary protocols are established to guarantee both accuracy and transparency. The results are anticipated to be announced by the afternoon.

Six candidates are competing in this election, including BJP's Daochier I Imchen, who is also the consensus candidate for the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), Congress's T Chalukumba Ao, National People’s Party (NPP) candidate I Abenjang, and Independent candidates Imchatoba Imchen, Imtiwapang, and Toshikaba.

This bypoll was called following the passing of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen. The polling, which took place on April 9, saw a voter turnout of 82.21%, with 18,400 out of 22,382 registered voters participating across 30 polling stations.
