Virat Kohli Returns for ODI Series Against England: Insights from Sanjay Bangar
India's Upcoming ODI Series with England
India is gearing up to face England in a three-match ODI series commencing on July 14, marking the return of star batsman Virat Kohli after a six-month hiatus. The Indian team, led by Shreyas Iyer, has faced challenges in English conditions, suffering defeats in three consecutive T20 matches following a washed-out first game.
Bangar Discusses Kohli's Dedication
In a recent episode of The Great Indian Cricket Show aired on Doordarshan, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar shared intriguing insights into India's preparations for the 2018 England tour. Reflecting on the current series, Bangar emphasized Kohli's relentless pursuit of perfection and the rigorous training sessions that helped him adapt to the challenges posed by the moving ball.
Bangar noted, "When playing in England, success hinges on two factors: effectively countering swing and timing your shots. After a disappointing performance in the 2014 tour, Kohli dedicated himself to extensive practice in 2017-18. Our training sessions were intense; we would arrive at a Mumbai ground by 6:00 or 6:30 AM to simulate the early dew conditions typical of England, taking advantage of the heavy morning atmosphere and moisture on the pitch."
Intensive Training to Mimic English Conditions
Bangar further explained, "If the sun emerged and the moisture on the pitch began to diminish, we would add extra water to maintain the ball's movement. Kohli engaged in this demanding practice consistently, with Ajinkya Rahane participating in several sessions. This focused training allowed three or four of our key batsmen to refine their skills, contributing to our success in matches during that tour."
ODI Series Schedule: India vs England
The ODI series will kick off at Edgbaston, followed by the second match in Cardiff on July 16. The series will conclude with the final match at the historic Lord's on July 19.
