Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Shine in Vijay Hazare Trophy with Record-Breaking Performances
Kohli and Sharma's Stellar Comeback
In a remarkable return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's ODI specialists, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, delivered outstanding performances, each scoring centuries that set new records on Wednesday. Their much-anticipated comeback to one-day domestic cricket showcased their dominance in the format, reinforcing their commitment to the 'Mission 2027 ODI World Cup'.
Kohli's Heroics Propel Delhi to Victory
Playing against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Kohli's exceptional batting skills guided Delhi to chase down a target of 299 runs. After winning the toss, Delhi opted to field first, allowing Andhra Pradesh to post 298/8 in their 50 overs, thanks to Ricky Bhui's impressive century (122 runs off 105 balls). Captain Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed 23 runs off 21 balls. For Delhi, bowlers Simarjeet Singh (5 wickets for 54 runs) and Prince Yadav (3 wickets for 50 runs) were instrumental.
Despite an early loss of Arpit Rana, a solid partnership of 113 runs between Priyansh Arya (74 runs off 44 balls) and Kohli set the stage for victory. Kohli's partnership with Nitish Rana (77 runs off 55 balls) culminated in Kohli's dismissal after scoring 131 runs off 101 balls, featuring 14 fours and 3 sixes. Delhi ultimately secured the win in 37.4 overs, finishing four wickets ahead.
Kohli Achieves List-A Milestone
Kohli also made history by becoming the second Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar, to surpass 16,000 runs in List-A cricket, joining an elite group of only nine players. His 58th List-A century puts him just three centuries shy of Tendulkar's record of 60. Remarkably, Kohli reached this milestone in just 330 innings, significantly faster than Tendulkar's 391 innings.
Rohit Sharma's Dominance in Mumbai's Match
In a match against Sikkim in Jaipur, Rohit Sharma showcased his batting prowess, scoring an unbeaten 155 runs off 94 balls, including 18 fours and 9 sixes. Sikkim, batting first, managed to score 236/7 in their 50 overs, with Ashish Thapa being the top scorer at 79 runs.
Rohit's explosive century came in just 62 balls, leading Mumbai to victory with nearly 20 overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.
Rohit Matches Warner's Record
With this performance, Rohit equaled Australian cricketer David Warner's record for the most 150-plus scores in List-A cricket, both now holding nine such scores.
Preparing for Future Challenges
Both players are participating in domestic matches to maintain their sharpness and fitness levels following a successful series against South Africa and a strong year in ODIs.
'Ro-Ko' Lead the Run Charts
