Tragic Incident in Gendra Village

Chatra, Dec 29: Two individuals lost their lives and two others sustained severe injuries during a violent confrontation between rival factions in Gendra village, located in the Kunda police station area of Jharkhand's Chatra district, as reported by local authorities on Monday.

The clash occurred late Sunday night, instilling fear and anxiety among the villagers. The victims have been identified as Devendra Ganjhu and Churaman Ganjhu.

Initial police investigations suggest that both groups involved in the altercation had prior affiliations with the outlawed Maoist group, Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC).

According to officials, around midnight, Devendra Ganjhu, along with several associates, visited the home of Shyam Bhokta, a local resident. An argument erupted between them over a longstanding dispute, which quickly escalated into violence.

During the confrontation, it is alleged that Devendra Ganjhu and his group opened fire indiscriminately. Shyam Bhokta and his brother-in-law, Gopal Ganjhu, suffered serious gunshot wounds. In the ensuing retaliatory gunfire, both Devendra Ganjhu and his associate Churaman Ganjhu were killed instantly.

Upon learning of the incident, police officials including Lovalong police station in-charge Prashant Mishra, Kunda police station in-charge Prince Kumar, and Simaria police inspector Sanoj Chaudhary, along with personnel from the SSB’s 35th Battalion, swiftly arrived at the scene to restore order. The bodies of the deceased were secured and sent for autopsy.

The injured individuals were initially taken to the Pratapgarh Community Health Centre but were later referred to Daltonganj (Medininagar) and subsequently to RIMS, Ranchi, for advanced medical care. Medical professionals have reported that both patients remain in critical condition.

Investigations indicate that the incident stems from a protracted rivalry and power struggle among former TPC members. Records show that Devendra Ganjhu had a history of criminal activity, with 36 serious cases registered against him. The injured Shyam Bhokta also had previous ties to the banned organization.

The atmosphere in the village remains tense, with many residents choosing to stay indoors due to fear. Police have increased patrols in the area, and the investigation is ongoing.
