In a violent confrontation between security forces and suspects in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, one suspect was killed, and three members of the Special Operations Group (SOG) sustained injuries during the night between Thursday and Friday. Following the incident, a large-scale search operation is underway to locate another suspect who managed to escape. Authorities have clarified that initial investigations have not linked this incident to any terrorist activities. However, a thorough investigation is ongoing, and additional security personnel have been deployed in the area for safety.


Details of the Confrontation

According to police reports, the clash occurred in the high-altitude Jai Valley region of Doda district. After receiving information about suspicious activities, the SOG team set up surveillance along the Jai-Gandoh road. Around 11:30 PM, the police noticed two individuals acting suspiciously and attempted to stop them for questioning. This led to a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.


Circumstances of the Shooting

During the scuffle, one suspect allegedly attempted to seize a service rifle from an SOG officer. In the struggle to protect the weapon, a shot was fired, hitting one of the suspects. The injured individual was promptly transported to a nearby hospital but was later referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.


Identification of the Deceased

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Arif Hussain, a resident of Chekha (Chika) village in Bhaderwah, who worked as an auto driver. Police noted that the incident occurred approximately 25 kilometers from his village. Meanwhile, the second suspect fled the scene, prompting a joint search operation by police and military forces.


Injuries and Ongoing Investigations

Three SOG officers were injured in the clash, with one suffering severe head injuries and remaining in critical condition. All injured personnel were initially taken to the sub-district hospital in Bhaderwah before being transferred to GMC Doda for specialized care. Senior police officials have indicated that there are no signs of involvement from any terrorist organization in this incident based on preliminary investigations. However, it has been suggested that the deceased may have been involved in cattle smuggling. Authorities have stated that it is premature to draw any conclusions until the investigation is complete.

In connection with the investigation, a religious preacher has been detained for questioning. Officials clarified that there is currently no direct link established between him and the incident, and he is being questioned solely as part of the investigation. Following the incident, security measures have been intensified. The military has ramped up efforts to locate the escaped suspect in the Jai area, while additional units of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir police have been deployed in Bhaderwah city and surrounding areas. As a precaution, internet services in the Bhaderwah region have also been temporarily suspended.
