Tensions Escalate in Jagatdal

In a shocking incident in Jagatdal, North 24 Parganas, a fierce confrontation erupted between members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), resulting in multiple injuries, as reported by officials.

The clash unfolded on Sunday night, marked by stone-throwing, gunfire, and the use of crude explosives. At least three individuals were injured, including a member of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Officials indicated that the altercation began near a police station after BJP supporters claimed that promotional materials for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally at Jalebi Math Maidan had been removed.

When BJP members arrived at the police station to file a complaint, TMC supporters also gathered, leading to a heated exchange that quickly escalated into violence.

Footage from the scene depicted chaotic conditions late into the night, with large crowds shouting and pushing as police and security personnel attempted to restore order. The aftermath revealed damaged vehicles and debris scattered across the area.

Rajesh Singh, the BJP candidate from Jagatdal, lodged a complaint at the local police station later that night. BJP officials stated that both Singh and Noapara candidate Arjun Singh were present when the situation deteriorated.

Conversely, Amit Gupta, the TMC candidate from Bhatpara, accused BJP workers of attacking their members, vandalizing party flags, and damaging a party office.

Pawan Singh, the BJP candidate from Bhatpara, held the TMC responsible for disrupting a street meeting and inciting unrest.

In a statement to the media, Singh recounted, "The issue began yesterday during our street corner meeting when TMC members, including councillor Manoj Pandey, arrived and caused a disturbance. We subsequently filed a complaint at the police station."

"However, after returning home, they began throwing stones and bombs at our residences, resulting in injuries, including that of a CISF jawan," he added.

Amit Gupta, however, provided a contrasting account. He claimed, "One of our workers was putting up banners when we were attacked. Our flags were destroyed, and our office was damaged. We filed a police complaint, but Arjun Singh and his CISF security assaulted us inside the station."

"We were merely filing a complaint when they behaved aggressively. If they can act this way in a police station, imagine what could happen elsewhere. We will also escalate this to the Election Commission," he stated.

Authorities confirmed that they are closely monitoring the situation and conducting further investigations into the incident.
