Violence in West Bengal Post-Election Results

After the announcement of the West Bengal Assembly election results, incidents of violence have been reported across various regions of the state. On Tuesday evening, chaos erupted at the well-known Hogg Market in Kolkata when a group arrived with bulldozers to demolish a building. The office of the TMC's union party was completely destroyed by the bulldozer. The TMC has accused BJP workers of demolishing several shops in Kolkata's Hogg Market.

Election Commission Takes a Firm Stand on Violence

Earlier, the Election Commission instructed the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, the Director General of Police, and the Central Armed Police Forces stationed in the state to adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding post-poll violence. This directive came after reports of violent incidents emerged from various parts of the state following the announcement of election results on Monday evening.

TMC Accuses of Vandalism

The TMC has alleged that several of its party offices were vandalized and its workers were assaulted. In the Tollygunge area of South Kolkata, the party office of former TMC MLA Arup Biswas was also destroyed. A TMC office in the Beleghata area faced vandalism, and one worker was beaten. The TMC further claimed that Abhishek Banerjee's office in Amtala was also attacked by a mob. Following these incidents, the Election Commission directed the Chief Secretary, DGP, and CAPF personnel to take strict action and implement a zero-tolerance policy against such occurrences.

Earlier in the day, Kolkata police warned of legal action against those spreading fake or inflammatory posts on social media, which could incite unrest in the city. The police stated that the situation in the city is under control and urged people not to share such posts. This warning was issued as numerous images and videos claiming violence after the election results began circulating on social media.
