Six houses torched in Manipur's Kultuk Kuki Village
Imphal, June 11: New reports of violence have emerged from Kamjong district in Manipur, where unidentified individuals reportedly set fire to six homes in Kultuk Kuki Village early Thursday morning. Initial reports suggest that two individuals may have lost their lives in this incident.
The attack occurred in the early hours of June 11 in a small village located approximately 30 kilometers from the Kamjong district center, which consists of around 25 houses.
While the details surrounding the event are still being clarified, it is confirmed that six houses were engulfed in flames. Unverified reports indicate that two fatalities may have occurred, although official confirmation from authorities is pending.
In response to the situation, Kamjong Police have dispatched a team to the village to evaluate the circumstances and conduct an investigation.
Officials are currently working to identify the victims, assess the damage, and determine those responsible for the attack.
This incident occurs amidst rising tensions in Manipur, following the discovery of six bodies believed to belong to Naga civilians who were kidnapped last month.
On the previous night, a Naga People's Front (NPF) office in Liangmai Taphou, Senapati district, was also set on fire, reflecting the growing anger and sorrow over the recent recovery of the six bodies.
This incident unfolded shortly after the United Naga Council (UNC) announced that six civilians, who had been abducted on May 13, were found deceased.
The situation has led to widespread outrage in Naga-dominated regions, with reports of protests and unrest surfacing from various areas.
Local sources indicate that a mob attacked the NPF office before igniting it, with protesters blaming authorities for their inability to secure the safe return of the kidnapped civilians. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.
The recovery of the bodies from Karam Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district has also incited unrest in multiple regions of the state. Reports indicate that trucks loaded with goods were set ablaze in Karong, Senapati district, while demonstrations took place in Tamei.
As of now, police have not confirmed any arrests related to the attack on the NPF office.
To prevent further violence and maintain order, security forces have been deployed in the affected areas.
At the time of this report, statements from both the Naga People's Front and the State Government were still awaited.
