Kolkata: On Sunday night, an office belonging to the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (MAITC) was reportedly vandalized by unidentified individuals in the Jadavpur locality of south Kolkata, as confirmed by local police on Monday.

The office's door was allegedly broken, and various items, including furniture, were damaged during the incident. This occurred just a day after the residence and office of former Trinamool Congress MLA Debabrata Majumdar faced similar attacks.

Upon arriving at the office located in Vidyasagar Colony No. 4, MAITC workers discovered that the sofa set had been overturned. They also noted that the party flag, which featured a floral design, had been torn and scattered.

According to the MAITC members, a water jug was smashed, and there were attempts to search and damage a cupboard within the office. They accused miscreants, allegedly backed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of orchestrating the attack, a claim that the BJP has refuted.

However, video evidence shared by the Mamata faction did not definitively show any political flags or identify specific individuals involved. BJP representatives dismissed the allegations, suggesting that the vandalism stemmed from internal disputes within the Trinamool Congress.

A formal complaint regarding the incident was sent to the Netaji Nagar police station. A local MAITC member stated, "Our party office was attacked by BJP-supported miscreants. We have filed a police report."

The police have initiated an investigation in Jadavpur and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

Earlier on Saturday night, a group of individuals was accused of vandalizing multiple Communist Party of India (Marxist) offices and attacking the residence and office of Debabrata Majumdar in Jadavpur.

Authorities reported that a gang on motorcycles had rampaged through party offices in at least six wards of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), tearing down party flags and discarding them on the ground. Majumdar's house and office, a long-time KMC councillor and former MLA from Ward 96, were also reportedly targeted.

The identities and affiliations of those involved in the previous attacks remain uncertain, and police are investigating potential connections between the incidents, as both parties continue to exchange accusations.
