Clashes in Karachi Following Protests


Karachi: On Sunday, violent clashes erupted on MT Khan Road in Karachi, Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals and injuries to many others. The unrest was sparked by a large protest from the Shia community, who were marching towards the US Consulate in response to the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli airstrikes, as reported by local news outlets.


Social media footage depicted scenes of chaos, with demonstrators smashing windows and setting fires outside the consulate, leading to confrontations with law enforcement.


Protesters were observed vandalizing property and attacking security personnel, which prompted police to respond with tear gas and warning shots to disperse the crowd.


The Edhi Rescue service confirmed that six fatalities occurred, with numerous injuries reported as law enforcement attempted to regain control using tear gas and batons, according to a leading Pakistani newspaper.


Injured individuals were transported to Civil Hospital Karachi via Edhi ambulances for urgent medical care.


Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has requested an immediate report on the situation from Karachi's Additional Inspector General of Police, Azad Khan.
