Vijay's Meeting with the Governor

Chennai: The leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, received a boost from Left party support as he met with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan on Friday. This meeting was part of his efforts to secure an invitation to form the government.

Sources indicate that Vijay's meeting with the Governor was brief. Following the Left parties' pledge of unconditional support, he arrived at the Governor's office in Guindy, where TVK supporters are hopeful that an invitation to form the government will be forthcoming.

After winning 108 seats in the recent Assembly elections held on April 23, Vijay's party is still 10 seats short of a majority. To address this, he has sought the backing of CPI, CPI (M), and VCK, all of whom are allies of the DMK. Each of these parties holds two seats in the 234-member Assembly.

While the CPI and CPI (M) have confirmed their support for Vijay, the VCK is expected to announce its decision on Saturday.

Vijay later expressed his gratitude to the CPI leaders at their state headquarters for their backing.

In the April elections, TVK emerged as the largest party with 108 seats. However, Vijay will need to resign from one of the two constituencies he won, in accordance with Election Commission regulations. The Congress party has also pledged support, contributing five MLAs to Vijay's cause.

With these calculations, the total strength of TVK and its supporting MLAs now stands at 116, factoring in Vijay's necessary resignation from one of the two seats he contested: Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East.
