Vijay Poised to Become Tamil Nadu's Next Chief Minister with Unconditional Support

Actor Vijay is on the brink of becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, having secured the support of key political parties, including Congress and VCK. Following a meeting with the Governor, preparations for his oath-taking ceremony are underway. The VCK's unconditional backing has resolved a political stalemate, allowing Vijay's party to move forward with government formation. Meanwhile, DMK President M.K. Stalin has expressed his party's commitment to act as a constructive opposition. This evolving political landscape in Tamil Nadu is generating significant interest as the state prepares for a new government.

Vijay's Path to Chief Ministership

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is on the verge of becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He recently met with the state's Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, at the Lok Bhavan. With the backing of Congress, CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and IUML, Vijay now has the support of 121 legislators, paving the way for his government formation. It is anticipated that he may take the oath of office tomorrow evening, with preparations underway at Nehru Stadium.

Support from VCK Ends Stalemate

The VCK, led by Thol Thirumavalavan, has extended "unconditional" support to the Tamilaga Vetrik Kazhagam (TVK), effectively resolving the ongoing deadlock regarding government formation in the coastal state. Although TVK holds 108 seats, including two for Vijay, it falls short of the 118 seats required for a majority in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. However, with the support of CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and IUML, the party is now set to establish the next government. Notably, the leftist parties, VCK, and IUML each have two legislators.

Celebrations Amidst Political Developments

In light of the potential for a TVK government in Tamil Nadu, supporters and activists celebrated outside the party's headquarters in Chennai, lighting fireworks. Despite the unconditional support for TVK, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan stated that his party remains part of the DMK-led coalition. During a press conference in Chennai, he emphasized that the decision to support Vijay was made with a long-term vision in mind.

DMK's Response to the New Political Landscape

DMK President M.K. Stalin congratulated Vijay's party, TVK, for securing a majority with the support of Congress, CPI, CPI (M), and VCK. In a statement, Stalin reiterated that his party would not obstruct the formation of the new government and would function as a constructive opposition. He noted that in situations where no party has a clear majority, various alternatives should be considered. He believes that whatever decisions are made by allied parties should be respected, and efforts should be made to ensure a stable government without opening the door for early elections.
