Vijay Claims Government Formation in Tamil Nadu After Party's Electoral Success
Vijay Meets Governor to Form Government
On Wednesday, Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vetrik Kazhagam (TVK), met with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar at the Lok Bhavan to assert his party's claim to form the government. This announcement came just two days after TVK emerged as the largest party in the state, despite not achieving an outright majority.
Vijay secured victories in both the Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur constituencies, demonstrating that his appeal extends beyond the film industry.
TVK's Position in the Assembly
With 108 seats won in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, TVK has positioned itself as the largest party, falling short of the majority mark of 118. The Congress party has publicly declared its support for TVK, although it remains unclear which other parties are backing Vijay's faction. Historically allied with the DMK, Congress announced its support for Vijay's party on Wednesday, severing ties with the Dravidian party. However, Congress has stipulated that TVK must ensure that communal forces that do not uphold the Constitution of India are excluded from the coalition.
Inauguration Ceremony Details
Vijay is set to take the oath as Tamil Nadu's new Chief Minister on Thursday morning, May 7. The ceremony is scheduled to take place between 10:00 AM and 11:15 AM, according to auspicious timings. It will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which has a seating capacity of approximately 5,000.
