Vietnam's President To Lam Set for Historic State Visit to India
Vietnamese President's Upcoming Visit
New Delhi: The President of Vietnam, To Lam, is scheduled to arrive in India on Tuesday for a State visit, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This marks To Lam's inaugural trip to India since his recent election as President earlier this month. He will remain in the country until May 7.
Accompanying him will be a high-ranking delegation that includes various Ministers and senior officials from the Vietnamese government, along with a significant business group, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
On May 6, President To Lam will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Prime Minister Modi is set to engage in extensive discussions with President To Lam, covering a wide range of bilateral relations as well as regional and global matters of shared interest.
Additionally, President Droupadi Murmu is expected to meet with the visiting dignitary.
Other prominent leaders are also anticipated to meet with President To Lam during his stay.
The MEA has indicated that the Vietnamese President will also visit Bodh Gaya and Mumbai as part of his itinerary.
These interactions are expected to inject new energy into the already strong bilateral relations and explore fresh avenues for collaboration between India and Vietnam.
On April 7, PM Modi extended his congratulations to To Lam on his election as Vietnam's President, expressing eagerness to collaborate further to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
He expressed optimism that the enduring friendship between India and Vietnam would flourish under To Lam's leadership.
In a message posted on X, PM Modi stated, "Heartiest congratulations to Mr. To Lam on his election as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. I am confident that under his leadership, the time-tested friendship between our two countries will continue to grow from strength to strength. I look forward to working closely together to further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the progress and prosperity of our people and the region."
The MEA highlighted that India and Vietnam share deep historical and civilizational ties, which have strengthened over time. President To Lam's visit coincides with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of their relations being elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a milestone established during PM Modi's visit to Vietnam in 2016.
