Guwahati, September 5: Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan is set to begin a four-day visit to the Northeast starting September 6, which will include stops in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh, featuring a variety of academic, cultural, and public events.

First Stop: Assam

According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Assam will be the initial destination for the Vice-President's tour from September 6 to 9. He is expected to arrive in Guwahati on Sunday to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Geetanagar College, previously known as Kanya Mahavidyalaya, at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.

The event is slated to commence at 10:45 AM. Later that day, he will also attend the convocation ceremony for the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) at Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, which is scheduled for 3:15 PM.

Engagements at Gauhati University

On September 7, the Vice-President will return to academic activities, participating in a foundation stone-laying ceremony at Gauhati University. He will engage with students, faculty, and prominent citizens at the university's Convention Centre, with the event starting at 11 AM. This occasion will also feature a civic reception and the laying of foundation stones for various projects at the university.

This visit is particularly important as the Assam government has previously approved a Rs 109-crore infrastructure development package for the university. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has indicated that the construction of these projects will commence during the Vice-President's visit.

Cultural Engagements in Meghalaya

After his commitments in Assam, Radhakrishnan will head to Shillong on September 7, where he will attend a public reception and cultural event at the Soso Tham Auditorium. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is anticipated to be present, and the event will showcase cultural performances from the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities, along with a choir.

The Vice-President is also expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several projects in Meghalaya, although specific details regarding these projects have yet to be revealed.

Final Stops: Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh

On September 8, Radhakrishnan will travel to Imphal, where he plans to visit the INA Museum and War Memorial at Moirang, as well as Sainik School Imphal, before heading to Itanagar.

On the last day of his tour, September 9, he will participate in a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and visit the Assembly Gallery-cum-Museum. His itinerary in Itanagar also includes stops at Nyedar Namlo, the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, and the Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired, as reported by the PIB.
