Veterinarians' Role in Rural Development Emphasized

The Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister, Prof. Chandra Kumar, underscored the vital contribution of veterinarians to the rural economy, encouraging young professionals to dedicate themselves to serving the farming community with empathy and commitment.

During his address as the chief guest at the oath-taking ceremony for the 35th batch of veterinary graduates held at Dr. G.C. Negi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, part of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Prof. Kumar remarked on the demanding nature of the veterinary profession, where practitioners often rely on symptoms to diagnose and treat animals. He emphasized the significant trust that livestock farmers place in veterinarians and urged graduates to engage in research initiatives that would benefit farmers, whom he referred to as the backbone of the nation.

The minister committed to enhancing stipends for veterinary students and highlighted the crucial role of veterinarians in maintaining livestock health, ensuring food security, and supporting farmer livelihoods. During the event, 59 newly qualified veterinarians officially entered the field by taking their oath.

Additionally, Prof. Kumar laid the foundation stone for a pedestrian corridor linking three university buildings, with an estimated construction cost of ₹15 lakh.

Palampur MLA Ashish Butail, who attended as a special guest, commended the university for its efforts in training skilled veterinary professionals and addressed challenges faced by the institution. The Vice-Chancellor shared a report detailing the college's academic, research, and outreach accomplishments, congratulating the graduates and expressing confidence in their dedication to the field.

The ceremony was well-attended by senior university officials, faculty, students, parents, and staff from various departments.
